License Lookup
Choose your discipline, your home state (where you live and hold your license) and the state you want to work in. The answer comes from each compact’s own list of jurisdictions issuing privileges, as of 2026-10-06: 38 issue PT Compact privileges (PTs and PTAs), 10 issue OT Compact privileges (OTs and COTAs) and 4 issue ASLP-IC privileges (SLPs and audiologists). When both states are issuing, you can generally buy a privilege instead of applying for a full license; anywhere else, a full state license is the route.

Which compacts are actually issuing — 2026-10-06
“Member state” and “state you can work in tomorrow” are different things. A jurisdiction can enact compact legislation years before it issues a single privilege, and a privilege you cannot yet apply for does not help you take a contract. These lists are grouped by what you can actually do today: 38 jurisdictions are issuing PT Compact privileges, 10 are issuing OT Compact privileges, and 4 are issuing ASLP-IC privileges.

Everything You Need to Know About Travel Therapy Licensing
One of the biggest barriers to starting travel therapy is the confusion around state licensing. Can you use your current license? Do you need to apply for a new one? How long will it take? How much does it cost? These are the questions every therapist asks before their first contract — and the answers vary dramatically by specialty and state.
The PT Compact has dramatically simplified multi-state practice for physical therapists and PTAs. As of 2026-10-06, 38 jurisdictions are issuing PT Compact privileges and 3 more have enacted the compact without issuing yet, so many PT travelers can reach a large part of the country without a separate license application. OTs have a newer but growing compact, and SLPs rely on ASHA's licensure standards plus individual state requirements.
ProTherapy Staffing helps every therapist navigate licensing from day one.
